A Level 1 charger uses a standard 120V outlet and adds about 3 to 5 miles of range per hour. That’s fine if you drive less than 30 miles a day and can leave your car plugged in overnight every night. For most people, it’s not enough.
A Level 2 charger uses a dedicated 240V circuit (similar to what runs your dryer or oven) and adds 20 to 40 miles of range per hour depending on the charger and your car’s onboard charger capacity. You can fully recharge most EVs overnight, and topping up after work takes a couple of hours instead of overnight. For anyone driving more than commuting distance — or anyone with a longer-range EV like a Lightning or R1T — Level 2 is the right answer.
We’ve helped many homeowners pass this inspection on the first try. If you’re listing your home soon, we can do a pre-sale walkthrough, identify any compliance issues, and bring everything up to code before the official inspection — saving you the cost and hassle of a failed inspection at closing.
New Jersey has been one of the most aggressive states in the country at incentivizing EV adoption, and several rebate programs are available to homeowners installing residential chargers — including state-level programs and utility-specific rebates from JCP&L and Atlantic City Electric. Programs change frequently, so we always check what’s currently available before quoting a job and help our customers identify which programs they qualify for.
